You probably hear often that core and hip stability is important for the runner and you’ve heard and/or seen (and are maybe already doing) different types of upper body and lower body exercises important for the runner, from squats and lunges, to jump squats and pull-ups. But what exercises do you do when? How can you build in a strength workout that won’t negatively affect the quality of your runs, but complement your running and leave you feeling stronger?
In 2017 we are excited to provide Phase-based Strength Training to complement your run training plans and answer these questions for you. As your run training plan is periodized into phases, so should your strength plan.
From strengthening your foundation and improving stability and runner-centric muscle recruitment, to developing endurance, increasing power and speed, and fine-tuning volume and intensity to leave you feeling sharp, but rested on rest day, your strength workouts will be broken into 6 phases to complement your run phases: Base, Endurance, Sharpen, Taper, Recover, and Maintenance.
How will you work with your coach and what is included?
You will work together via an online training tool that can be accessed from your computer or a mobile device. Essentially you have access to a plan that has been customized to you at a time that works for your schedule. The program includes:
- Customized strength workouts that will be based on the number of days ideal to your schedule and your strength training goals.
- All exercises are based on the equipment you have available to you and are accompanied by an instructional video.
- The ability to provide feedback on the workout, record stats, and communicate with your coach via the online tool.
You have the ability to join at any time throughout the year; however, it must be for a minimum of 6 weeks so that you can experience the benefits of consistent and focused training.
